Discernment Retreat for Young Men Aug 13,14,15

The Vocations Office of the Diocese of Gallup and the Serra Club of Gallup are sponsoring a Discernment Retreat for Young Men. Last year's retreat went very well and bore fruit among its participants. One of the retreatants is now an applicant to the diocesan program of priestly formation.
The Retreat will be held at the Cure of Ars house of Discernment on August 13, 14, and 15. The weekend will include Mass, adoration, talks, a hike with the Bishop, and visits to retired priests. Please contact the vocations office at 1888PRIESTHOOD for more information.

Last Summer the Vocations Retreat was a great success. 16 young men from around the diocese came to Gallup for a 3 day stay at the Sacred Heart Retreat Center. This Summer the retreat will take place Aug. 13-15. This photo was taken on the hike up Pyramid Peak where Bishop Wall gave a talk we called his "Sermon on the Mount".

Dedication of the Curé of Ars House of Discernment June 19th

Bishop James S. Wall will launch The Year of the Priest in the Diocese of Gallup by dedicating a House of Discernment of vocations to the priesthood. The facility which formerly housed Our Lady of Mount Carmel Center, will be a place of prayer and formation in Christian living for men who are seriously considering a priestly vocation.

The Campus which encompasses three different houses will retain the name of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, but the House of Discernment will be named “Curé of Ars” the title by which St. John Vianney was known. The title simply means “ the curate” or parish priest of Ars, which is the town in France where the saint labored for the spiritual wellbeing of his people.

The Dedication will consist of sung Solemn Vespers, the blessing of the facility, and a reception beginning at 7pm on Friday June 19th. The Curé of Ars house is located at 208 Cedar Avenue in Gallup. During the Year of the Priest, the pope will proclaim St. John Vianney to be patron saint of all the world's priests. At present he is the patron saint of parish priests. This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the St. John Vianney’s death. Gallup is also home to St. John Vianney Parish which has an outdoor shrine to the Saint.
